Within the health and fitness industry, there are a variety of job opportunities and possibilities to pursue. Health and wellness are incredibly important. Helping others learn better diet and fitness practices, as well as inspiring others to lead healthy lifestyles can be incredibly rewarding as a career. In this post, I would like to explore a variety of careers that one could pursue in the health, wellness, and fitness industry.

Dietitians and Nutritionists
As a nutrition specialist or a dietitian you will be working with clients to determine their nutritional needs in order for them to achieve optimal health. You will teach them how to improve their diet, and how to eat a healthy, balanced diet based on their individual needs. You will help them develop meal plans and diet strategies to improve their health, and help them reach their goals. You will address the clients individual dietary needs based upon factors such as managing or preventing disease, weight goals, and nutritional gaps in their diet. You can work with clients and track their progress (Dietitian or Nutritionist, 2018).
To work as a dietitian you will need a bachelors degree in this field, as well as a license in most states (Dietitian or Nutritionist, 2018). According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the median wage for this job is $60,370. Salaries can range from $38,460 to $84,610 (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2019).

Fitness Trainers and Instructors
As a fitness trainer or instructor you will be training clients on the proper techniques and practices to reach optimal physical fitness. You will work with clients or with groups and help them reach their fitness goals. Your role will be not only to educate your client(s) on physical fitness and proper training practices, but also to motivate and inspire them. The median pay for this job is around $39,820 (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2019b). This job typically requires a High School diploma and some training.

Nurses and Healthcare Practitioners
As a nurse or healthcare practitioner you provide patient care. You care for and treat patients who are sick or injured (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2019c). You provide health advice and support to patients. The job of nurses is incredibly important. If you are looking for a job in health and wellness, and you want to make a major difference, this job may suit you. As for education, nurses typically receive a bachelor in science degree and need to pass an exam by the local licensing board (SnagAJob). The median pay for nurses is $113,930 a year (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2019c).
If you have a passion for health, wellness, and fitness a career in one of these fields could be incredibly rewarding. There are many different careers you can consider in the health and fitness industry. In this industry you have an opportunity to make a major difference in people’s health and wellbeing.
